Learner Guide Makhosi shares his story with us.
‘It’s safe to say that from then he knew what he wanted to be, a fire had been ignited within and the flames would not die.’
Makhosi has endured a long journey, with lots of ups and downs. Every job he applied himself to has been in the Tourism Industry because it has always been his dream; from working in a travel agency to being part of the airline industry and now a learner guide at Somalisa Camp. Being a guide is realising Makhosi’s aspirations and he is loving every moment of it! His ideals for the future are simple, to be a professionally qualified walking guide, photographer, author and to one day travel the African continent from the beautiful Okavango in Botswana to witnessing a lifetime Mara migration of the zebras and wildebeests.
Knowing Cecil’s story is one that Makhosi holds close to his heart, one that strikes deep down. The legacy of Cecil will live on forever through the likes of the love felt by Makhosi along with many other guides and travellers who knew him. Witnessing Cecil’s pride hunting a dagga boy (an affectionate term for a buffalo) just a few meters from camp is an experience Makhosi deems this his favourite. From the buffalo fighting the sub-adult lions while their mothers watched on the side lines as they showed their skills, which eventually brought the buffalo down.

As a learner guide for African Bush Camps, Makhosi has joined the family which he feels has made his feel as if he is home. The passionate, guide has grown with us.

‘African Bush Camps has given me the chance to explore my passions, which include photography, writing. In my opinion, there is no company that trains its employees as ABC does. As a guide, it’s been a pleasure meeting guides from other camps on our annual Guides Training Workshop. Everything I know about guiding, I have learnt and will continue to learn from ABC.’
