Magnetic Moments in the Wild

Kanga Expeditions is a wild untouched paradise within a private concession in Mana Pools National Park. In this remote southwestern stretch, vlei lines, mopane woodland and riverine forests give way to intriguing discoveries beyond the banks of the Zambezi River. As the sole source of water in the dry season, Kanga Pan creates a haven for wildlife, drawing animals from near and far to the heart of Kanga Expeditions. Here, you’re bound to experience untamed magnetic encounters as you embark on an enriching African safari.

Promising luxury in the wild, Kanga Expeditions comprises six Meru-style tents with floor-to-ceiling mesh windows inviting fresh air and natural light to filter in. Powered by solar, each tent has an ensuite with hot running water, an outdoor shower and a secluded veranda elevated above ground to take in the views of the pan outside. Designed for reconnecting in nature, our Family Tent features a wraparound terrace with private seating and dining areas overlooking the pan. The luxurious honeymoon tent features a rolltop bath on an adjoining secluded deck, setting the scene for a romantic starlit bath in nature.

Under the shade of a mahogany tree, our inviting upper deck entices you to slip away for a moment of calm or to birdwatch over the pan. For gathering between activities, Kanga Expeditions boasts a full bar and plunge pool for reprieve in the warmth of the day.

Activities at Kanga Expeditions include guided walking safaris through the concession and thrilling day and night game drives led by our qualified and passionate local guides. Keeping with African Bush Camps’ family-friendly nature, children over seven are welcome at Kanga Expeditions.

Open from April to the end of November, Kanga Expeditions pairs well with Zambezi Expeditions, where you can enjoy the excitement of canoeing and catch-and-release tiger fishing on the mighty Zambezi River.

    Beautiful Kanga Camp, perfect setting.

We loved Kanga Camp and its unique setting. From the warm welcome by the team, to Jaison’s attention to our comfort; the excellent meals and of course our superb guide, Godwin. Everyone involved in the camp made us feel welcome. To sit on our deck at siesta and watch the many animals come to that waterhole and drink, was a real privilege, a constantly revolving door of wildlife, right in front of you.

    So close to the animals.

I stayed for 3 nights in room 6. Biggest room at the end of the water hole. The animals like to walk past the room. It’s very large and has great views. You don’t need to leave the lodge to see animals. You can just sit on the deck of the main area and watch them at the water hole. They are so close you could almost touch them.  The staff are wonderful here and go above and beyond. The food is really good here and there’s always a choice for dinner.

    Kanga Camp is the best!!

We arrive in the late afternoon and were just in time to be taken on a game drive with a very knowledgeable ranger. On our return we were treated to a delicious dinner under the stars with really good wine. The tents are extremely well equipped and comfortable. Joyce, the hostess, is fantastic, went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed. She was also very informative about Zimbabwean culture, history and politics, a real gem. Sitting around the water hole at night we spotted a pennant winged nightjar, a highlight for us. Game viewing the next day was spectacular. Wish we could have stayed for a few more days.

The Vukani Group Project

The Vukani Group Project is a community of women who are making beautiful, handcrafted necklaces, bracelets, and napkin rings out of recycled magazines. This project takes items that we typically throw away and repurposes them into something beautiful. Items are for sale at the ABC trading post in our camp.

Khwai Pre School

Khwai village has a population of approximately 400 BaBukakhwe (River Bushmen), the majority of which are from low-income households. The service delivery in this community is limited and faces challenges accessing education, health facilities and water and electricity connections. The community of Khwai was without a pre-school school in the area. Primary school learners would attend boarding schools out of the village in Maun and surrounding communities.

Thandanani Sewing Group

Thandanani, which means “love each other,” is a local sewing group run by women in the community of Dete, in Hwange.
