Travel Seasons

At African Bush Camps, we’ve defined three unique safari seasons to help you choose the ideal time for your journey and discover what makes each one truly extraordinary.

Emerald Season

December – April

Emerald Season is a time of renewal and rebirth, when rains transform our heartlands into a lush, green oasis and water sources reach their fullest. It’s baby season, as zebra foals, elephant calves, and lion cubs emerge and explore the world for the first time. With blooming flowers, vibrant birdlife, and fewer tourists, Emerald Season offers beauty, life, and unforgettable safari moments.

Diamond Season

May – September

Diamond Season is when Africa’s heartlands shine at their most brilliant. Cool, crisp mornings and silvery light lead into warm days and starlit nights. As the land dries, wildlife gathers at rivers and pans, where clear skies and sparse vegetation bring every movement into focus. It’s a time of courtship and territorial displays, with lions and leopards more visible and unforgettable moments unfolding in the open. With dazzling skies and striking clarity, Diamond Season reveals safari at its sharpest and most spectacular.

Amber Season

October – November

A phenomenon unique to Africa, Amber Season is when the landscapes glow in shades of orange and gold. As the peak of the dry season, animals gather at the last water sources, creating powerful scenes of resilience and survival. It’s a time of intense predator-prey action, with lions and leopards highly active and sightings frequent. With fiery sunsets, hot weather, and dramatic encounters, Amber Season is a mesmerizing chapter of the safari experience.
