African Bush Camps Empowers Women Through Safari Guide Training in Botswana

African Bush Camps (ABC), with 18 lodges across Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, is transforming Africa’s male-dominated safari guiding industry with its Female Guides Program. Launched in 2021, this fully funded, three-year training program equips women with skills in wildlife tracking, ecology, and first aid, preparing them for careers as professional safari guides. Since inception, 24 women have joined, with 12 currently active as trainees or qualified guides, including graduates like Baemule “Bae” Siethuka at Atzaró Okavango. ABC’s initiative emphasizes industry-wide impact, empowering women to enter and excel in safari tourism while fostering more intentional, immersive guest experiences. The program aligns with ABC’s broader mission to support local communities, conservation, and sustainable safari experiences.
