New Kitchen, Dining Hall, and Garden Transform Learning at Mambanje Primary School in Zimbabwe

African Bush Camps Foundation Transforms Learning at Mambanje Primary School with New Kitchen, Dining Hall, and Garden

Learners at Mambanje Primary School now benefit from improved access to fresh meals, safe
dining spaces, and clean water. This follows the official handover of a newly refurbished
kitchen, dining hall, and community garden by African Bush Camps Foundation (ABCF) on 1
December 2025.

The ceremony coincided with the school’s annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day, and was
attended by Chief Nekatambe, Ministry of Education officials, Hwange Rural District Council
representatives, and the wider community.

A Long-Term Partnership for Stronger Schools
For nearly two decades, ABCF has worked alongside the Mambanje community to improve
learning conditions, nutrition, and child well-being. Previous initiatives include classroom and
teacher accommodation upgrades, solar installations, borehole drilling, and expansion of the
school nutrition program.

Key Upgrades for Learners and the Community
The new facilities aim to make a lasting impact on education and nutrition:
• Refurbished kitchen with fresh paint and new blinds for a bright, functional cooking
space
• Refreshed classrooms and updated plaques across school grounds
• Community garden with a borehole, irrigation taps, and an external communal tap to
provide clean water to households
• Sheltered dining hall providing a safe and comfortable space for learners to enjoy
meals

“This dining shelter is more than just a building. It is a place that brings our school together
and provides a clean and comfortable environment for our learners to enjoy their meals and
build friendships.” — Leticia Sibanda, Teacher at Mambanje Primary School
ABCF also supplied all food catering for the handover ceremony, ensuring learners and families
could enjoy the occasion together.

Looking Ahead to 2026
In the coming year, ABCF will continue supporting Mambanje Primary School through learning
materials, school maintenance, hygiene support for girls, community engagement, and two
nutritious meals per day for every learner.

Powered by Tourism and Community Collaboration
These projects are made possible through guest bed-night levies from African Bush Camps’
Somalisa Camp, alongside generous support from donors and partners. This partnership
reflects a shared commitment to education, community resilience, and conservation
