African Bush Camps Foundation Partners with Palesa Molefe to Support Junior Rangers in Litter Clean-Up Initiative
African Bush Camps Foundation (ABCF) is dedicated to education and environmental conservation. One of its initiatives is the Junior Ranger Program, which takes place at Khwai Primary School in Botswana’s Khwai Village. Held twice a week, this program teaches children in grades 4 to 7 about environmental conservation through classroom lessons and hands-on experience. Topics include trash separation, biodiversity, soil erosion, animal welfare, and water conservation, with lessons facilitated by African Bush Camps staff and local guides.
(ABCF) partnered with former Miss Botswana Palesa Molefe to encourage the young participants in their conservation activism and education. ABCF donated copies of Molefe children’s affirmations book, ‘O Sure, O Sharp’. A key aspect of the Program is its emphasis on practical application, such as the litter clean-up event organized by the children of Khwai Primary School, with support from ABCF. This initiative arose from a curriculum requirement for students to identify local issues. As Khwai Village is a well-visited location by tourists and litter is a significant concern, the children launched a clean-up campaign before and after the peak tourist season. They identified stakeholders, created awareness messages, and engaged the community, applying their Junior Ranger lessons in real-world conservation efforts.
The Junior Ranger Program is based on the ‘mind, heart, and hand’ principle, which combines intellectual learning (mind), emotional connection (heart), and practical application (hand) to foster holistic growth and meaningful action.
Through these initiatives, ABCF is empowering the next generation with the knowledge, skills, and passion required to protect their environment and create a lasting impact in the Khwai community.

This was truly a 5+ star bucket list experience. We were treated with the utmost respect, generosity and kindness by every staff member. We appreciated the understated luxury, attention to detail, magnificent lodge decor, the on-the-Zambezi River setting, the phenomenal food, guides, trip to the epic Vic Falls and optional activities...
Julia K, March 2024Managing 23 travelers from California, Maine, Massachusetts, and Montana was difficult. Finding a camp in the Okavango was also difficult. Fortunately, I made contact with Vanessa Stanley, and she was able to assist in finding two camps that were proximal to each other, thus allowing a group of 23 to have meals and free time together and still be at a bush camp. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
