African Bush Camps Foundation and Dulini Daunara Invest in the Future Through Ditshiping Pre-School Rehabilitation

African Bush Camps Foundation, in partnership with Dulini (Daunara), has completed the rehabilitation of Ditshiping Pre-School, transforming the facility into a safe, welcoming and sustainable learning environment that will benefit generations of children in Botswana’s Okavango region. When the Ditshiping community identified the need to revitalise its pre-school, it turned to the African Bush Camps Foundation for support. In partnership with Dulini (Daunara), the Foundation has since completed a comprehensive rehabilitation of the facility, transforming it into a welcoming, future-ready learning environment that will benefit generations of children in Botswana’s Okavango region.

More than a building refurbishment, the project represents a long-term investment in early childhood education and community wellbeing. By creating an environment where young children can learn, play and develop safely, the rehabilitation supports stronger educational outcomes while reinforcing the Foundation’s belief that thriving communities are essential to successful conservation.

The project forms part of African Bush Camps Foundation’s ongoing commitment to improving access to quality education for rural communities living alongside some of Africa’s most important wildlife landscapes.

This initiative was made possible through a collaborative partnership between African Bush Camps Foundation and Dulini, combining financial investment, project management and technical expertise to deliver meaningful, long-term change.

While African Bush Camps Foundation oversaw project planning, procurement and implementation, Dulini’s generous financial contribution helped bring the project to life, ensuring the pre-school can once again serve as an important community asset.

Together, the partners invested in creating infrastructure designed not only to meet today’s needs but to support the school’s future growth and development.

The comprehensive redevelopment included significant infrastructure upgrades such as a 10kW solar power system, water storage and pressure systems, a solar geyser, complete electrical rewiring and improvements to the teacher’s accommodation. Safety enhancements include fire extinguishers, a fire hydrant, improved electrical systems and a designated emergency assembly point.

Learning spaces have been completely revitalised with refurbished classrooms, educational murals, new furniture, learning materials, and signage, giving both learners and educators access to valuable digital resources. Outside, new playground equipment, landscaping and ground rehabilitation have created an engaging and stimulating environment where children can learn through play. Additionally, the installation of Starlink internet connectivity will be completed, providing reliable internet access for the facility.

Importantly, the project was designed with sustainability at its core. Rather than investing solely in short-term repairs, the Foundation prioritized resilient infrastructure that will provide reliable electricity, clean water and digital connectivity for years to come, creating a strong platform for continued educational development in this remote community.

The reintegration also reflects the strength of community collaboration. Members of the Ditshiping community, Honeyguide teams and local suppliers worked alongside the Foundation throughout the project, contributing to site preparation, cleaning and landscaping while fostering a sense of ownership and pride in the renewed preschool.

For families in Ditshiping, access to quality early childhood education provides children with a critical foundation before they begin primary school. The upgraded facility now offers safe learning spaces, reliable electricity, clean running water, improved sanitation, educational resources and outdoor play facilities—all essential elements of a nurturing and effective early learning environment.
