Plan your safariKhayelitshe house is a hidden gem set on a large private estate peaceful and private without another soul in sight or sign of civilization. I have been twice and can’t wait to go back. You need not walk far to explore ancient cave painting and gain the most beautiful viewpoints to watch sunrise and sunsets, not to mention the most beautiful clear starry skies you’ll ever see. The staff absolutely spoil you with their hospitality and delicious food. Khayelitshe House is very unique destination you have to stay at least once in your life and explore all that Matopos has to offer including the near extinct white and black rhino.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Khayelitshe House, and it was an unforgettable experience! The beauty of the Matopos Hills is absolutely breathtaking, with stunning landscapes that seemed to change with every turn. It was so special sitting with a cup of coffee in the mornings, listening to the baboons. One of the highlights of our trip was the incredible engagement with rhinos. Watching these majestic creatures in their natural habitat was truly a magical experience, made even better by our knowledgeable guides who shared fascinating insights about their conservation. The accommodations were both luxurious and comfortable, providing the perfect retreat after a day of adventure. The meals were delicious, and the warm hospitality made us feel right at home.
The Vukani Group Project is a community of women who are making beautiful, handcrafted necklaces, bracelets, and napkin rings out of recycled magazines. This project takes items that we typically throw away and repurposes them into something beautiful. Items are for sale at the ABC trading post in our camp.
Khwai village has a population of approximately 400 BaBukakhwe (River Bushmen), the majority of which are from low-income households. The service delivery in this community is limited and faces challenges accessing education, health facilities and water and electricity connections. The community of Khwai was without a pre-school school in the area. Primary school learners would attend boarding schools out of the village in Maun and surrounding communities.
Thandanani, which means “love each other,” is a local sewing group run by women in the community of Dete, in Hwange. They make beautiful African print placemats, bags, robes, travel wallets, and clothes. Everything they make is unique and made with love. Items are for sale at the ABC trading post in our camp.

This was truly a 5+ star bucket list experience. We were treated with the utmost respect, generosity and kindness by every staff member. We appreciated the understated luxury, attention to detail, magnificent lodge decor, the on-the-Zambezi River setting, the phenomenal food, guides, trip to the epic Vic Falls and optional activities...
Julia K, March 2024Managing 23 travelers from California, Maine, Massachusetts, and Montana was difficult. Finding a camp in the Okavango was also difficult. Fortunately, I made contact with Vanessa Stanley, and she was able to assist in finding two camps that were proximal to each other, thus allowing a group of 23 to have meals and free time together and still be at a bush camp. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
