An authentic bush experience & sustainable community-focused safari

Set on the banks of the Khwai River in a forest of sycamore and leadwood trees, Khwai Bush Camp offers spectacular views into the untamed wilderness of the famous Moremi Game Reserve and is home to the authentic Botswana luxury safari.  Open year-round, our Botswana safari lodge combines the romance of the yester-year safari with a sustainable, community-centred approach to safari. The Khwai area comprises varied ecosystems that invite exploration – from enchanted forests and undulating grasslands to lush floodplains and meandering lagoons – this is one of the most consistent areas for wildlife encounters year-round.

Khwai Bush Camp comprises four standard chalets (with fireplace) and two family chalets, all en-suite. Watch the magic of Africa unfold from the sanctuary of your chalet’s cool, thatched interior or the veranda that overlooks the famed Moremi Game Reserve. Battery-charging facilities are available in each guest room as well as fans. The main lodge area also has charging points for your convenience. Enjoy languid afternoons at the sparkling poolside drinking in the serene floodplain surrounds. Share an aperitif around our lively fire circle before tucking into hearty, homespun fare at our family-style feasts. Activities include guided walking safaris, bird watching, river activities, and game drives spotting Africa’s iconic wildlife species – lion, cheetah, leopard, wild dog, elephant, buffalo, hippo and giraffe.

All our activities led by our qualified and passionate guides who will share their knowledge and love of the bush with you. A visit to our neighbouring Khwai village is a cultural highlight. Here, you experience a Botswana safari lodge that cherishes the interests of the Khwai community while honouring the spirit of the pioneer safari explorers. For a Botswana luxury safari that offers a sustainable, community-focused experience visit Khwai Bush Camp.

  • At Khwai Bush Camp you get close to the wonders of nature or rather you’re right in the middle! We not only appreciated the respectful way of observing wildlife of our guide Mighty but also his huge knowledge and his passion. Whether during the bushwalk, the night game drive with the sighting of a giant eagle owl amongst others or during the daily game drives, we learned a lot from Mighty, just watching and enjoying in peace.

  • We spent two nights at the camp in August, we had great safari with Sinka our guide spotting leopard, wild dog, lion killing antelope etc. Not a single Safari without seeing amazing wildlife.
People at the camp were very nice and friendly and the food was excellent. Camp is in the wild we were even able to see a lioness during our lunch there.

  • This was the 2nd stage of our Botswana safari holiday, travelling as a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children (10 and 12)). We were met on the airstrip by our guide “Professor Ken” and driven by jeep to Khwai Bush Camp. We arrived to a very warm welcome of singing and dancing by all the camp staff, followed by drinks and cold flannels to refresh ourselves. That was just the start of a truly first class service which lasted to the very moment that we departed.

  • Our family of 6 spent 3 nights in the Khwai Bush Camp. The experience was outstanding in every way. The staff went to extraordinary lengths to make our stay memorable. The lodge and cottages were comfortable and nicely furnished. The food and special evening under the stars were special treats. And, special thanks to Sinka, our guide, and Kaytee, the camp host, who made our stay in Africa a joy.

Primary School Disability Unit

Kachikau Primary School Disability unit currently accommodates about 32 students with disabilities from the villages in Chobe, Botswana. The unit provides schooling, accommodation, and daily meals for the learners. The school infrastructure was ill-equipped to support learners with special needs as it lacked basic infrastructures such as wheelchair ramps and paved walkways. This made it increasingly difficult for learners using a wheelchair to move around the school premises.

Female Guides Training

Women from communities in Botswana do not have access to the same career opportunities as safari guides, compared to their male counterparts. This career is still largely a male-dominated one, with little active investment, training, or skills development in female guides that would empower them to pursue their dreams and provide for their families. Linked to this dynamic, there is also a scarcity of job opportunities currently available for female guides in camps in the area.

Basket Weaving Project

The Vuche Vuche Basket Weaving Project aims to empower women from the local community through basket weaving. This initiative creates employment opportunities whilst displaying Botswana’s heritage and culture through beautiful crafts. Baskets are for sale at ABC trading posts, and guests can visit Vuche Vuche to learn basket weaving and experience traditional dances.
