Driven and informed by local communities, African Bush Camps Foundation is committed to long-term conservation while empowering the people surrounding our African Bush Camps Experiences. African Bush Camps Foundation and Lolebezi are therefore delighted to announce our partnership with Conservation Lower Zambezi to support the Kufadza female scouts: Zambia’s first all-women ranger team.
Kufadza, meaning ‘to inspire’ in the local Goba language, is a fitting name for these remarkable women. The Kufadza female scouts patrol and safeguard the Lower Zambezi National Park and the surrounding Chiawa Management Areas, diligently seeking out poachers, snares, and other signs of illegal activity. Armed with military assault rifles for protection, they hike up to 10 miles per day on patrol. Beyond their protection duties, they work closely with local communities to emphasize the importance of conservation while addressing the challenges that wildlife poses for those living near or within unfenced parks.
Not only are Kufadza voices for the women and children in their community, they are also inspirational role models helping to shape the future generation of rangers, nature enthusiasts, and conservationists in Lower Zambezi.
“We are proud to be partnering with these female scouts who are pillars of the community, deeply connected to the land and its people.” – Koinonia Baloyi, Communications and Fundraising Officer.

African Bush Camps Foundation is supporting the training and deployment of 10 female scouts in Zambia. This initiative supports our commitment to fostering greater gender inclusivity in the tourism sector while ensuring that the scouts actively patrol national parks and work with local communities to manage and reduce human-wildlife conflict. You can partner with Kufadza by sponsoring a female scout with a donation of $5,000. This contribution will cover the costs of training, patrols, and uniforms for one year.
Together, we can continue to share and conserve Africa.

This was truly a 5+ star bucket list experience. We were treated with the utmost respect, generosity and kindness by every staff member. We appreciated the understated luxury, attention to detail, magnificent lodge decor, the on-the-Zambezi River setting, the phenomenal food, guides, trip to the epic Vic Falls and optional activities...
Julia K, March 2024Managing 23 travelers from California, Maine, Massachusetts, and Montana was difficult. Finding a camp in the Okavango was also difficult. Fortunately, I made contact with Vanessa Stanley, and she was able to assist in finding two camps that were proximal to each other, thus allowing a group of 23 to have meals and free time together and still be at a bush camp. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
