As the water plunges noisily down generations of basalt gorges, an iridescent mist can be seen for more than 20 kms away. The largest curtain of falling water in the world, Victoria Falls stands at an altitude of 915m above mean sea level (a.m.s.l), spanning 170m the river can reach depths of 100m and zigzags for a continuous 150km below.
Situated in the midst of the striking Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, and a short journey from Victoria Falls, Thorntree River Lodge sits on the banks of the Zambezi River. Drawing inspiration from the local customs and culture, the property will incorporate the modern design representative to the African Bush Camps style. The lodge will have eight standard rooms and two family units, each with four beds. Each private room will include an indoor and outdoor bathroom and a secluded plunge pool. The main lodge will have a lounge with an open-plan kitchen and dining area as well as a wine cellar. Other facilities include a library, a gym and spa overlooking the Zambezi River, and an infinity pool.

The fragile ecosystem of discontinued forest and sandy alluvium created by morphological processes have resulted in a core breeding zone for four endangered, migratory bird species, two of which are the Taita falcon and the Black eagle, making birding an experience unique to the park .

On the 19th January 2017, Beks Ndlovu, Founder and CEO of African Bush Camps, invited a couple of friends of the trade to accompany him to the construction site of Thorntree River Lodge. The excitement was tangible as Beks spoke about the newest lodge in African Bush Camps portfolio. In collaboration with Tenthouse Structures and African Bush Camps in house architects, the site is coming along nicely, with the foundations laid and the excitement building.
Thorntree is scheduled to open in May 2017. As an opening special, Thorntree will keep a standard rate of $600 pppn for the whole of 2017!
Thorntree is slowly shaping up! We have concluded our staff recruitment and we are now embarking on training. Dumi, Manager at Thorntree, says he and his team will be ready to host guests by the end of April.
