Khayelitshe

Situated in the heart of the Matopo Hills, just outside the boundary of the National Park lies Khayelitshe. Enclosed by the iconic balancing rocks and surrounded by a natural amphitheater of massive boulders, Khayelitshe got its name from the Ndebele words ‘Ekhaya’ and ‘Litshe’- Home in the Rocks. Khayelitshe was featured on Top Billing in 2016 – watch the full video here.

Khayelitshe sits amoungst the ancient granite boulders of Matopo Hills- a place of exquisite beauty and great cultural and spiritual significance. Matobo, meaning ‘bald heads’ was the name chosen for the area by the famous Ndebele King, Mzilikazi.  The area boasts sweeping panoramic views of famous Matopo landmarks that can be seen at a distance: Mount Efifi, Rhodes’ Grave, Inungu, Silozwane Cave and Mbambata Cave.

Khayelitshe’s charm comes from its simplicity and organic blueprint. Drawing inspiration from travels throughout Africa, the eclectic design brings both tranquility and energy. This is a home that is completely off-the-grid, one that inspires peacefulness and being at one with nature. The environmentally friendly design blends in perfectly with the ancient and majestic landscape that surrounds the property.
